Big Brother Africa 2010: All Star Edition

It's another year and another season for reality tv producers and viewers alike. A personal favourite for the past 5 years has been the Big Brother Africa annual show. It started out really new and unexpected, gave us all a shock when they actually showed EVERYTHING; Including shower and sex  scenes.

They went through all the ups, downs and heavy tussles with the pro-African culture peeps who happen to have hypocritical members in our state houses. Anyway, with just a week to go before a sensational new BIG BROTHER AFRICA hits African television screens, speculation about the new show is growing fast as eager fans across the continent gear up for the highly anticipated July 18th launch.
M-Net has made a dramatic announcement confirming that the show is set to be a full fledged ALL STARS version, featuring some of the most unforgettable, outspoken, entertaining housemates of previous editions! But just who are they? That is still a secret that remains to be seen!

This edition still retains the price money from the Revolution that took place last year - US $200,000. And it will feature 14 housemates from 14 African countries and a choice for the viewers to pick between two feeds that would be aired (am I smelling the return of shower hour? I hope so)...

Can we have a moment of Silence?...

Howdy Y'all!

If you are reading this today, then you probably are doing it because you need something or someone(me) to take your mind off the fan ruckus, football tv presenters and VuvuZella blaring South Africans.

It is indeed a great day for everyone in the world. A dream come true for many(mostly South Africans who won't go to school or will have to work half day for a month because of the World Cup). The fight for freedom, equality and a chance to show that we can prove ourselves has finally paid off.

I'm particularly loving Shakira's performance from last night. It was a lot of fun to watch, really colourful and entertaining. As with all celebrations though, i always pity those who have to clean up the venue... that's so not my favourite job.

In the midst of all the excitement and making merry by all of us, the family of a South African pillar has been thrown into grief and mourning. The death of Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter Zenani Mandela in a car accident has indeed saddened many of us who do not believe in doing many wrong things in the name of football.

Johannesburg Metro police spokeswoman Edna Mamonyane said the driver of the car, a man, had been arrested and charged with drunk-driving. She said the driver, whom the police refused to name, could also face culpable homicide charges. “The Metro police found that he was drunk,” Mamonyane said. “He lost control of the vehicle and it collided with a barricade.”

Police spokesman Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, who earlier said the driver would appear in court for a preliminary hearing Friday, said that it had been postponed for more investigations, and that the driver was not being held. Mariemuthoo said that was not unusual...

May her gentle 13 year old soul rest in peace.

This is Big Sister?!

Ssup y'all!

I just want to confirm, am I the only one who feels Big Brother Africa 4 is a total mess up? C'mon, what are the producers thinking? You take a show that is really popular continent-wide and turn it into what exactly?
Geez! People are still getting over the rude shock and the veiwership is dropping that this year's BBA would not be featuring the controversial Shower Hour and even the late night Uncut footage; Only for the producers to deem it fit to first assault our eyes with serious bromance in the house for a WEEK, before bringing the girls.

I think the show has been taken over by spongebob squarepants people who think its sexy to be broke. Cos I don't see why any right thinking group of people would want to lose viewership a lot of people would kill for. Okay, I have to be fair on them and cut them some slack because of the hassling they've recieved from a lot of bodies who are against nudity and all; But they found a perfect way to handle it by saying if its showing on your TV, its because you asked for it! DSTV would not broadcast it to anyone except it was requested for. So why the exclusion of the 'koko' of the show? Anyway, I really hope they don't lose me too, 'cause the constant ranting of  A LADY who is supposed to be Big Brother is disturbing. I LOVE WOMEN and I ain't sexist but I just feel its too much of a contradiction.

M.J's glove goes for $48,400...

One of Wacko Jacko's white signature gloves that was thrown into the crowd by the singer was auctioned off  by the lucky fan in Australia for almost twice the price. Now there is why some people keep praying for some others to die...lol.

T.I's Jail sentence starts...now!

ATLANTA — Grammy-winning rapper T.I. told fans he would stay optimistic when he heads to prison on a federal weapons conviction. The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., performed for a packed audience Sunday night in Atlanta's Philips Arena less than two days before he is to begin serving the sentence of a year and a day.

"I'm going to stand up tall, head up high," he said. "Thank you for all of your support."

Many in the packed crowd of about 16,000 people held up encouraging signs, like one reading "T.I. We Will Miss U!"

He must report by noon Tuesday to the Federal Correction Institution at Forrest City, Ark. He was arrested after prosecutors said he tried to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers from undercover federal agents in 2007.

During the concert, T.I. said he hoped that everyone learned from his mistakes. He brought his five children on stage, often holding one of them while he performed "No Matter What" _ a single off the almost double-platinum album "Paper Trail."

T.I., who won a Grammy for "Swagga Like Us," also performed all his hits from "What You Know" to "Bring 'Em Out" to his recent chart-topping singles "What Ever You Like" and "Live Your Life." Teenage rapper Soulja Boy also joined him on stage.

"What I need y'all to do is pray for me while I'm gone," he said. "I'll see y'all in 366 days."

We sure will all miss you, bruv.

Dad at 13yrs old (WOW)...

BOY dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost - but said: "I think it's a lot."
Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like 8, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman - 15yrs gave birth to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne.

He told how he and Chantelle, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant. The shy lad, whose voice has not yet broken, said: "I thought it would be good to have a baby. "I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10."

Alfie, who is just 4ft tall, added: "When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.

"I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it."

Alfie's story, broken exclusively by The Sun has sparked a huge political storm with Tory leader David Cameron saying: "When I saw these pictures this morning, I just thought how worrying that in Britain today children are having children. "I hope that somehow these children grow up into responsible parents but the truth is parenthood is just not something they should be thinking about right now."

Maisie was conceived after Chantelle and Alfie - just 12 at the time - had a single night of unprotected sex.

I am speechless on this one. I should have posted it earlier, but I just had to take my time. My advice? PLEASE carry condoms with, on & around you EVERYTIME. I happen to know how spontaneous sex can be these days. Zip up or use a condom.

Mo' Hits Crew at the 2009 SMVAs...

Holla y'all!

The SoundCity Music Video Awards took place on the Saturday, the 1st of August, 2009.
The venue was packed full with stars from all areas of entertainment and it was a night that had divas and divos out in full gear to show the continent what they put on, how well they put it on and who put it on them.
Everyone arrived early so as to grace the Red carpet. Oh, that reminds me. The Red Carpet; That piece of material that could be said to be as important as the main event itself. Right from its addition to events, people of low class, high class, stars, upcoming artistes and the likes have given the Red carpet it's deserved respect before any event by allowing themselves to be subjected to the crazed flashes of the photographers and the short interviews that have become a culture on the Red carpet.
On Saturday, I was sincerely put off by the code of conduct that was displayed by members of the Mo' Hits crew on the Red carpet. What was up with all the security and the total and painful disregard of the members of the press that were present at the event? If you think you have arrived, think again bros. We made you...

Big Brother 4... Bigger than ever!

BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION.

Prize money has been doubled and now stands at a phenomenal
USD 200 000, a breathtaking, life-altering ‘winner takes all’ fortune.

Newly introduced open castings in 18 cities will form the widest BIG BROTHER AFRICA search ever. Add 40 ‘all-seeing, all-knowing’ cameras, and 100 microphones and the new season has almost twice as much sight and sound capability as seasons 1, 2 or 3.

In addition, the old rules banning conspiracy in the house have been lifted and contestants will be free to forge alliances, discuss strategy openly and play the game in an entirely different way.

Even the voting is set to undergo a complete transformation. This year, audiences will be asked to vote for the housemates they want to see remain in the series rather than the housemates they want to see leave the house. So it’s all about being positive and keeping the great players in the game!

Top all this off with a dramatic revised format, bolder and more intense than anything audiences have seen so far. Do all this…and then you may get some idea of the sheer scale of production that’s been planned. And that’s just what the channel is willing to reveal right now.

“The team’s been working for months already, fine-tuning the latest edition, focusing on delivering the ultimate BIG BROTHER AFRICA. We’ve got quite a few secrets this time round, so you’ll have to wait and see what happens. We aren’t going to give away
all our surprises, but it’s definitely a new series and we mean new,” says
M-Net Africa Director Biola Adekanbi.

She goes on to say, “After three seasons, it was time for a fresh spin, time for bright ideas. This series is for the fans, to say thank you for supporting Big Brother since it began. So we’re giving them the best gift we can – a show to beat all the others.”

Following up on this vision, series producers Endemol SA have also been busy analyzing and observing other Big Brother successes around the world to develop innovative series elements and inject fresh new creativity into the production.

Once again, in BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION, would-be housemates from Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe are eligible to enter the series. This time round though, the search has been widened to include housemates from Mozambique, a dynamic and growing economy, and Ethiopia, which is home to the African Union.

To get the process started, M-Net has begun calling for entries for the new season. And, in line with its re-energized identity, the new BIG BROTHER AFRICA will include, for the first time, open castings sessions in the 14 participating countries.

Just take yourself, or a friend, or a family member that you think is perfect for the show, to a casting venue and get in line to see the selection team. Remember that castings will be held on a ‘first come/first served’ basis and to qualify for entry, you must be over the age of 21, be fluent in English, have a valid passport and be a citizen of any of the 14 participating countries.

Entrants who impress the selectors at the open castings will head into several follow-up selection rounds, before the final housemates are chosen. They’ll then head into a revolutionized BIG BROTHER AFRICA house on September 6.

91 entertaining days later, after chasing the largest reality series prize that M-Net has ever offered and almost certainly the largest reality TV cash prize on offer in Africa, one winner will be chosen by voting audiences at the series Finale on December 6.

Once again, all the action will be screened on DStv channel 198, 24/7 so audiences won’t miss a thing on the revitalized BIG BROTHER AFRICA.

For more information on BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE REVOLUTION, to find out where to enter or to reconnect with other fans, And check in regularly because in the run-up to September 6, M-Net will have several major announcements regarding their biggest, boldest Big Brother yet.

The Legend, Micheal Jackson is Dead!

The crowns fit: Michael Jackson was the King of Pop; Elvis Presley was the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Both men commanded the pop-culture landscape, as much as the charts. Both men influenced their industry, as well as scores of artists.

And both men died unexpectedly and barely into middle age.

Jackson, whose lifetime of hits helped sell more than 750 million albums worldwide, whose smooth moves revolutionized dance as much as pop, and whose penchant for headline-making helped burnish his brand, and, following child-abuse allegations, helped tarnish it, as well, died today after being found unconscious at his Los Angeles home, multiple sources confirm to E! News.

Jackson suffered a heart attack, according to father Joe Jackson, and never recovered.

Music's eternal Peter Pan was 50. In the end, the King of Pop outlived Presley, whose daughter Lisa Marie Presley Jackson would wed, by only eight years.

"I'm very proud that we opened doors, that it helped tear down a lot. Going around the world, doing tours, in stadiums, you see the influence of the music," Jackson told Ebony magazine on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his landmark album, Thriller.

"When you just look out over the stage, as far as the naked eye could see, you see people. And it's a wonderful feeling, but it came with a lot of pain, a lot of pain."

Released in 1982, Thriller represented the pinnacle of Jackson's recording career. Back before albums were cherry-picked by iTunes-downloading consumers, Thriller produced seven hit singles—and there were only nine songs in the collection all told. The album of "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and more won Jackson a record seven Grammys, and sold more than 104 million copies worldwide.

Born Aug. 29, 1958, in Gary, Ind., Jackson became a star at age 11 as the number-one focus of the Jackson 5. The sibling group, which costarred Jackson's brothers Jackie, Marlon, Tito and Jermaine, burst onto the Motown scene with the hits, "I Want You Back" and "ABC."

Jackson released his first solo album in 1979, Off the Wall and there was no going back for him. REST IN PEACE brother and role model.

Sights from my Trip to Togo...

I was in Togo for the Easter. It was a swell experience, really because I always thought the only countries in Africa worth visiting were Nigeria and South Africa. The country is swell, the roads are properly taken care of, the chics are all 'blessed' with crazy backsides and the nightlife is crazy. Togo is a must-add to your
list of vacation spots; just be careful with their bread- 'sakomi'... lol.
